What’s on my workbench?

Earlier this year I met a wonderful woman, Judi Herschell
Judi has been running the “Bears That Care” charity auction for the past few years, raising money for the research for early detection of Ovarian Cancer.

Did you know?
If found in its early stage, ovarian cancer is essentially curable.
If found late, 80% of women will not survive 5 years.
Unlike breast cancer there is NO screening tests available fir the early detection of ovarian cancer

Ovarian cancer kills ONE in every TWO who develop the disease

230,000 women worldwide will be diagnosed with this disease.
Ovarian cancer is the most lethal of all gynaecological cancers

Judi has in the past raised money buy selling the donated bears at an event in Melbourne. With the rising cost of holding events and the sad fact that the general public don’t always appreciate the costs of handmade bears, this year the show will be held online. Now everyone can attend and artists will be able to encourage their collectors to come along and everyone wins.

Artists have exposure and can also sell other bears (and keep this money)
Bear Collectors can adopt a bear and
Early detection of Ovarian Cancer research can continue.

I have relaunched the Bears That Care website using my Easy ArtSpace Builder platform. I now need to create just over 40 new artist profile pages  already along with creating the 2012 Show page which will go live on the 18th November. For now I will be making each artist show page and the internal links etc. Lots of work and I really wish the show every success.

If you would like to join me you can visit the Bears That Care Site and put your name down to donate a bear or receive a show reminder email so you can visit and maybe buy a bear. I also hope to have a donation button by the show and offer a free pattern for your generosity.

While this is going to be a lot of work, it is going to be lots of fun. I am so glad to be able to help in this way and know that we are all making a difference.

  1. Helen,

What a wonderful thing you are doing! I wish you every success with the auction and have signed up to be notified when it happens so I can come and possibly buy a bear. Thank you for your work on behalf of Ovarian Cancer Research, you are a wonder!

  2. Yes Helen this is a great cause! Sounds like there will be plenty of bears and critters to adopt in the show!
